"Be part of the Plan" is the theme for this year's International Day for Biological Diversity.Science and Technology Daily (S&T Daily) reporters visited the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Yunnan province in southwestern China, where they witnessed the joint efforts of scientists from China and abroad to preserve biodiversity.
Sino-French cooperation in science and technology dates back to 1978, marking a significant milestone in bilateral relations. Over the years, this collaboration has flourished, particularly in fields such as people-to-people exchanges, basic scientific research, and high-tech cooperation.
Tianjin is known as the hometown of northern traditional Chinese opera, and the cradle of crosstalk, a comic and witty dialogue generally between two performers. Hence there is a saying that "Every Tianjin resident is a master of crosstalk."
Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province in southwest China, is a blessed megacity. It was the starting point of the ancient Southern Silk Road trade route, and today is an important cluster for the Belt and Road Initiative, and the central hub and economic gateway of southwest China.
Prof. Georg Gesk's 30-year stint in China began in 1986. Today, he is a China expert fluent in Chinese and with a deep understanding of Chinese law and Eastern culture and philosophy.Recently, he shared his story with Science and Technology Daily as well as his unique insights into China's achievements since the reform and opening up. He said, the Gesks, a German family, had a rich experience of multicultural exchanges and the advantage of speaking foreign languages such as Polish, Hebrew and Russian, but no one had ever been exposed to Chinese except for himself.
The 2024 Beijing International Friendship Forest Tree Planting Event, held in Changping district in Beijing recently, attracted nearly 200 people, including foreign envoys to China, foreign experts and students from 47 countries.

The upgraded version of the International Web Portal of Beijing (https://english.beijing.gov.cn/) was officially unveiled on March 28. Saulebek Kabylbekov, an ophthalmologist from Kazakhstan, has been living in Daqing, northeast China's Heilongjiang province for 25 years. Before meeting the Austrian railway expert Robert Geldner, we heard from his Chinese colleagues that he has both outstanding professional skills and a great personality.Geldner, with a background of more than 20 years in industrial manufacturing technology, is an expert in material and welding technology. Currently, he is the welding director for CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Company (CRRC ZELC), playing a pivotal role in contributing to rapid development of China's rail transit and propelling it onto the global stage.
In 2017, Rwandan student Samuel Ntakirutimana, currently a postdoctoral researcher at Tianjin University (TJU), came to Guangzhou for the very first time, excited at the prospects of starting a new life studying in China. He referred to Guangzhou, one of the largest cities in south China, as a "dynamic and vibrant place" with many skyscrapers and crowds of bustling people. Since then,?Ntakirutimana has been furthering his studies at TJU in Tianjin and gained a deep understanding of China.
As the Two Sessions have convened, Science and Technology Daily is privileged to present insights from nine foreign experts who have shared their perspectives on four themes, namely, Innovation, Openness, Sustainability and Inclusiveness. These interviews provide a multi-dimensional look at China's strides in promoting Chinese modernization. In China's scientific community, female researchers are increasingly supported and provided with a flexible environment in which gender equality is well-recognized and implemented. Three foreign female experts shared their perspectives on how China is opening more doors for women in the sci-tech field.
Professor Francis Gregory Snyder is an internationally recognized expert on food safety law, WTO law and EU law. He served as dean of the Law Department of the European University Institute and Honorary Professor of the London School of Economics and Political Science, and is now chair professor at School of Transnational Law, Peking University.
"China's relationship with Ethiopia has been strong for over 50 years, and it has been further strengthened by the Belt and Road Initiative, which has led to increased collaboration in various sectors, including infrastructure, economy, and cultural and social development. I also benefit greatly from the close bilateral relations," said Fayisa.
It was a great way to end the year. And an even better way to start the next one.
At the forefront of this change are companies that have transformed from local workshops into global leaders through relentless innovation and smart manufacturing.
